About Shayema Rahim:

Shayema RahimMy paintings begin with making an initial commitment to the canvas and then embracing where that commitment takes me. The way I feel my paintings has to have a voice, when it’s finished. There are many emotion and my deep passion layered onto my paintings, some are easily translated and others not.

My cultural diversity, plays a role obviously, when I paint. I was born in Bangladesh, a very small country in South Asia. I was raised at the capital city, Dhaka.
I was fortunate. But most of the people live in extreme poverty. But they are still quite content and very giving. People in our part of the world within their limited ability are very hospitable by nature. I think that’s a very good eminence that they have, people with lots of wealth sometimes can’t spare a penny for poor’s.

My lessons in Indian classical music plays a role in my thought process for painting. There are days when I listen to one certain song, ragas (is one of the melodic modes used in Indian classical music) few times and then I feel something from within which I paint. I find that music enhances the letting go process, leading me to intuitive color choices. Art is such a large part of our everyday lives that we may hardly even stop to think about it. Look at the desk or table where you are, right at this minute. Someone designed that. It is art. Your shoes are art. Your coffee cup is an art too.

In life, I wanted to have touch of art in every step of my life where it can be reached. It started from my kitchen, my garden, my gift wrapping, my garnishing, my entertaining style , my fashion sense, I mean really everything. My guests saw artistic touch everywhere at my house and that’s the way I wanted it to be. Life without the touch of an aesthetic sense is not a life at its fullest to me.

In my paintings I try to represent an ongoing exploration of the infinite potential for rhythms of color in nature. Creating these artworks helps me to value opportunities for personal development in life’s changing patterns.

About her Abstract Artwork:

Shayema RahimArt gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves in our own distinct way. To me, art is my way of talking to myself and my inner soul. Color gives me a very special kind of joy and brush gives me some sort of power or freedom. Art is something that makes me think more about my surrounding, my emotions, my future and also my present and help me become a more well-rounded human being . The way I express myself, it can help others too. Because there will always be people who feel the same way but they cannot express it themselves and they will get some level of joy and peace just by looking at my art.

My cultural diversity, plays a role too when I draw and paint. They are born from an argument between life’s experiences, subconscious impulses and my own muddled aesthetic preferences.
